About IP Defense

What is IP Defense?
IP Defense is a fully managed brand protection service. We identify copycat apps, impersonation accounts, phishing domains, and marketplace abuse across app stores, social platforms, and the web — then manage the entire enforcement process to get them removed or remediated.
Is IP Defense a law firm?
No. IP Defense is an operational enforcement service, not a law firm, and we do not provide legal advice. We specialize in the operational side of brand protection: verifying violations, building evidence, filing platform complaints, managing escalations, and tracking cases to resolution. Where a matter escalates beyond platform enforcement, we coordinate with your legal counsel.
How is IP Defense different from pure software platforms?
We pair brand intelligence technology with a managed expert team that reviews and enforces resolutions on your behalf. You aren't buying a dashboard of alerts; you are buying execution and confidence.
How is IP Defense different from hiring an IP lawyer?
IP lawyers are the right choice for formal legal action: litigation, trademark prosecution, and cease-and-desist campaigns. IP Defense operates before that threshold — platform-level enforcement that is typically faster and less expensive for most digital brand abuse. We work alongside your counsel rather than replacing them.
What kinds of companies do you work with?
App developers and publishers, AI companies, SaaS platforms, and consumer digital brands — any business where brand integrity drives real revenue.

Understanding Brand Abuse

What is a copycat app?
An application published by an unauthorized third party that imitates your app's name, icon, screenshots, description, or functionality in order to divert users searching for your product.
What is the difference between a competitor and a copycat?
A competitor offers a similar product under its own distinct identity. A copycat deliberately imitates your brand's identity to create confusion and capture traffic that was intended for you.
What is the difference between impersonation and infringement?
Impersonation is pretending to be your company or your people. Infringement is using your protected brand elements without authorization. Most copycat situations involve both.
How does brand abuse actually affect revenue?
Through several mechanisms at once: intercepted organic search traffic, inflated customer acquisition costs, subscription and purchase interception, rating contamination, and eroded community trust. Most of it never appears in your analytics.
How common is digital brand abuse?
It is common for any brand with meaningful recognition. Most apps and brands above a certain visibility threshold have at least one active copycat, impersonator, or infringing listing at any given time.
What is typosquatting?
Registering a domain that is visually similar to yours — swapping a character, adding a hyphen, or changing the top-level domain — usually to host a fake login page or phishing portal.

App & Software Protection

Can you remove copycat apps from the App Store and Google Play?
Yes — copycat app removal is our core specialty. We identify the violation, build the evidence Apple and Google act on, file through the correct channels, and escalate until the case resolves.
Can you remove lookalike APKs from third-party sites?
Yes. We monitor rogue APK distribution sites and file takedown requests directly with their hosts, pursuing removal of the unauthorized software.
How do you handle keyword abuse on app stores?
We identify developers stuffing or bidding on your branded keywords and escalate to store moderators with the evidence formats their review teams require.
Will my app rankings recover after a copycat is removed?
Typically yes. Once a competing copycat listing is removed, organic search performance usually recovers within one to three store index cycles.
Do you cover both the Apple App Store and Google Play?
Both stores — plus third-party APK sites, social platforms, marketplaces, and web domains where app brand abuse spreads.

The Service

What exactly does IP Defense do?
We manage brand enforcement end to end. Discover: continuous brand intelligence across every platform. Verify: analyst-reviewed evidence, prioritized by impact. Resolve: complaints filed, escalations managed, cases tracked to close.
What platforms do you enforce on?
Apple App Store, Google Play, Meta, Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, major e-commerce marketplaces, and web domain registrars.
Who verifies threats before action is taken?
A human analyst reviews every flagged case before anything is filed (see how it works). That protects you from the false-positive takedowns that fully automated tools are known for.
How long does a typical case take?
Clear App Store violations typically resolve in two to four weeks; Google Play often takes three to five. Social platform cases can close in days. Complex, cross-platform cases can take six to twelve weeks.
Can you guarantee a takedown?
No — enforcement decisions belong to the platforms, not to us. What we commit to is verified, correctly categorized, properly documented submissions with active follow-up and escalation. That is what makes favorable outcomes likely.
What do you need from me to get started?
Your app or website URLs, basic brand information, and a point of contact for questions. We handle the scanning, verification, evidence, and filings.
Do I need to manage a dashboard?
No. That is the point of a managed service. We run the program and report outcomes; your team doesn't spend hours triaging alerts.

Pricing & Commitment

How much does IP Defense cost?
Pricing is scoped to your footprint — how many properties you're protecting, how many active violations exist, and which platforms are involved. We offer Intelligence Only, Fully Managed, and Enterprise Custom tiers.
What is included in the free risk audit?
An initial map of your brand exposure — app store listings, similar-app searches, and checks across major social platforms and domains — with a clear picture of what we find and what handling it would take.
Are there per-takedown fees?
No per-case fees and no cap on enforcement actions within your scoped engagement. Pricing is based on your footprint, not metered by complaint.
Do I need a long-term contract?
No. Managed plans run month to month. A one-time assessment is available as a single engagement with no ongoing commitment.
Why don't you publish exact prices?
Scope varies enormously. A single copycat and a fifteen-app portfolio with cross-platform abuse are fundamentally different engagements. A short conversation gets you an accurate number instead of a misleading one.

Results & Reporting

What outcomes can I realistically expect?
Based on our track record: app removals, forced name and branding changes, impersonation account takedowns, phishing domain removals, and corrected misleading listings.
How will I know what you've found and resolved?
Regular case status updates — when violations are found, when complaints are filed, how platforms respond, and when cases close, with before-and-after evidence.
What happens if a platform doesn't act?
We escalate: resubmission with stronger evidence, higher-level channels, and parallel enforcement on other platforms where the same actor operates.
What if new threats appear after cleanup?
Managed plans include continuous monitoring, so new violations are caught and actioned as they appear. Assessment clients can re-engage or upgrade at any time.

Data & Confidentiality

Is my brand information kept confidential?
Yes. Your brand exposure, case files, and evidence are handled confidentially and on a least-access basis — only team members who need the information to act on your behalf can see it.
Do you use my data for anything else?
No. We use the information you provide to deliver services to you. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. See our Privacy Policy for full detail.
